Steininger Mahdi

Mahdi Steininger (1936-1994) Obituary

Mahdi was born in Hawksburn in 1936, the daughter of Keith and Linda Murtagh. The family moved to Dandenong and Mahdi was educated at West Dandenong Primary School and Dandenong High School. Mahdi worked as an insurance clerk and met her future husband, Hubert, at a dance at Dandenong Town Hall in 1957. They were married at St James Church of England, Dandenong on Easter Saturday in 1958.

After living in Dandenong and Noble Park for several years they bought their block of land in Police Road and moved into their new home with their five children on 14th March 1964.

From the time of the birth of her first baby, Karen, Mahdi went every day to the Trudi King Baby Health Centre in Dandenong to help out for more than eight years. Even after moving to Rowville Mahdi would catch the bus each day into Dandenong to assist Sister Shoe.

Mahdi was a distributor of the News for over eight years, even when she had to use her wheelchair as her illness, motor neurone disease, took hold. She was a lovely lady who never had a bad word to say about anybody.

Mahdi is survived by her husband, Hubert, children Karen, Christopher, Kim, Dean and Adam, and grandchildren Casey, Daniel and Sean. Mahdi is greatly missed by her family.
