Bryan Power

 Bryan Power commenced the writing of local history articles in the Rowville-Lysterfield Community News in November 1990. Bryan and his wife Jock bought their land in Bergins Road in 1968 and moved into their new home in 1971.  All of their five children: Tony, Megan, Matthew, John and Bart attended Rowville Primary School and John and Bart went to Rowville Kindergarten. All the boys were cubs and scouts with 1st Rowville while Megan was a brownie and guide with the Rowville Company. Bryan was on the scout committee for a number of years.

Tony and Matthew played cricket with the Rowville under 15 team and Bryan was the manager-coach of that team for two seasons in the early 1970s. Jock taught at Rowville Primary School between 1973 and 1980 and was a member of the School Council for two years. Bryan started with the Rowville- Lysterfield Community News as editor in December 1990, a position he held until moving to Gisborne at the end of 1998. We now have another editor, Darren Arnott, to take us, we hope, through the next decade! 

The article “Mrs. Con Fordham Remembers” was the first in a series of articles Bryan published between November 1990 and December 1998. Many are based on his interviews with long-time Rowville and Lysterfield residents and provide a multi-faceted picture of the district’s past and its growth throughout the years spanned by the memories of our older citizens. As well as being of general interest to readers, it is hoped that the articles will become a useful resource for the present and future generations of Rowville and Lysterfield school children who will at some stage of their education study the topic “Local History”. Through Bryan’s dedication and the many, many hours he has spent interviewing the residents over the years and recording their unique stories which appear on the following pages, their place is assured in Rowville and Lysterfield’s history and will always be remembered.
