A key parcel of land in the heart of Bayswater will be retained for community use following negotiations between the
Victorian Government and Council.
Mayor Cr Nicole Seymour said the rare opportunity to purchase land in such a central location was too good to pass
up.
“We’ve purchased the land for the benefit of the Bayswater community. Its future use will be determined as part of a
planning process, which will involve consulting the community on what they want to see and how they want to use
the space,” Cr Seymour said.
Council has purchased the surplus land from the Victorian Government which compulsorily acquired it to facilitate
the removal of Mountain Highway level crossing in 2016.
The land at 750 Mountain Highway Bayswater is adjacent to the new Bayswater train station and the iconic
aeroplane boy. It was purchased for $580,000.
