Rowville Seniors’ Club recently hosted the annual Knox Senior’s Indoor Bowls Tournament. This event is one of the highlights of our annual calendar and is funded by Knox Council as part of Seniors’ Week.
Sixteen teams from around our district competed to have their team name inscribed on the perpetual trophy. This is a fun full-day event where teams play seven matches of seven ends rotating to various mats after each round. Our tournament continues to be mega popular with more teams than our limit of sixteen applying. It pays to get in early.
Competition between friends old and new is always keen. Many matches went right down to the wire to find a victor as well as several draws being recorded. It really was close to a photo finish at the end. But the winners, an all female team, were from Springers. Several teams tied for second.
It was great to see Joy and Kevin, two of our regulars who are currently not quite fit enough to play.
Special thanks to Sandra who organises the entire event alone as well as to Kath, her scoring helper for the day. As we all know, events of this kind take a great deal of time in planning and scoring. We are also very grateful to Sheridan Stone, from Knox City Council, who attended on the day to present the medals and trophy to our winners. Sheridan is always our ‘go to’ person for anything relating to events in our region for seniors.
