CFA Olympics: Boronia vs Rowville

15-Oct-2024 | By Kim Ryan, Community Safety Officer, Rowville CFA

Taking inspiration from the recent Olympic Games in Paris, Boronia and Rowville CFA battled it out at the local athletics track in a spirited competition. This event provided a fantastic opportunity for the crews to practice drills under pressure, enhancing their fitness and strength.

Teams of three raced against the clock, employing their skills in simulated fire scenarios. They swiftly bowled hoses and used couplings to attach extra lengths and show water. Afterward, they rolled up the hoses and reset for the next challenge. One of the scenarios involved a burst hose, requiring teams to shut off the water, replace the hose, and resend the water to the end.

Each crew member also tackled the coupling board, where they had to match the couplings of various hose ends with their mates—no easy task while wearing protective gear and gloves.

Congratulations to Rowville for taking the gold this time.

Both crews eagerly anticipate further cross-crew training sessions, recognizing that it is this type of collaborative training that ensures CFA volunteers are always prepared and capable of protecting our communities every day.
