Rowville Toastmasters ignite the stage with thrilling speech contests

Rowville Toastmasters recently held its International and Evaluation Speech Contests, showcasing the incredible talent and growth of its members. The event drew in a captivated audience of members and guests alike.

The evening kicked off with the International Speech Contest, where three speakers took to the stage. Nira Sheffi delivered a powerful message on courage and bravery, and Vrinda Menon captivated the audience with the fascinating intricacies of family names. Chamarie Piyarathna added a unique touch, sharing her inspiring journey from humble beginnings. The atmosphere crackled with anticipation as each speaker wove their stories, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.

Judges faced the challenging task of evaluating the speeches based on content, delivery, and language. In the end, it was Vrinda who emerged victorious. Nira secured a close second place, followed by Chamarie. 

A brief intermission allowed for mingling and refreshments, including delicious cake baked by Nira herself! After the break, the Evaluation Speech Contest saw contestants showing their critical listening and feedback skills. This contest highlights the importance of effective evaluation in public speaking, a skill crucial for personal and professional growth.

Naina Menon volunteered to deliver the test speech, providing a platform for evaluators Shameer Aboobucker, Vrinda Menon, Nira Sheffi, Rina Rose Meyer, Chamarie Piyarathna, and Rafael Azevedo to showcase their feedback skills. Each evaluator provided insightful and constructive feedback, demonstrating the supportive and learning-focused environment that Rowville Toastmasters fosters.

Ultimately, Shameer’s astute observations earned him first place, with Rina and Rafael taking second and third place respectively.
